Building an Exceptional Community Training Portal with Web Application Development

Web application development plays a vital role in empowering organizations to deliver seamless digital experiences to their users. In collaboration with CoAct, we had the privilege of developing their Community Training Portal for Workforce Australia. Our engagement encompassed a comprehensive process, from user research to selecting the appropriate solution architecture and platform, resulting in a custom solution tailored to CoAct’s specific requirements.

Understanding User Experience through User Research

To ensure an exceptional user experience, we embarked on a user research phase to gain insights into the needs and preferences of CoAct’s target audience. By conducting interviews and surveys, we were able to create personas and develop experience maps that mapped out the customer journey. These valuable insights served as the foundation for designing an intuitive and user-friendly portal.

Prototyping and Design Validation

Using the knowledge acquired from user research, we created various prototypes, ranging from low to high fidelity. These prototypes allowed us to iterate and refine the design, incorporating user feedback at each stage. Through usability testing and feedback sessions with real customers, we validated the final design, ensuring it met CoAct’s goals and provided an exceptional user experience.

Selecting the Right Solution Architecture and Platform

We conducted a thorough technology assessment for CoAct to identify the most suitable solution architecture and platform for their Community Training Portal. Considering factors such as scalability, performance, and future growth, we recommended a .NET framework with an angular front-end. This combination provided a robust and scalable foundation for the portal’s development. To ensure seamless hosting and management, we selected Microsoft Azure as the hosting platform.

Customised Functionality for CoAct’s Requirements

The Community Training Portal we developed for CoAct was tailored to their unique needs and requirements. It encompassed a wide range of functionality designed to enhance the user experience and streamline workflows. Some of the key features included:

Three types of users: Administrators, Coaches, and Participants, each with their respective roles and permissions.
Two subsites within the portal, providing different content and resources based on user profiles and needs.
A service locator to help users find CoAct services and programs in their local area.
Resume and cover letter builders to assist participants in creating professional and compelling job application materials.
Assessments to evaluate participants’ skills and match them with suitable employment opportunities.
Work-life plans to help participants set goals, track progress, and manage their career development.
Integration with a data warehouse to collect and analyze valuable data for reporting and decision-making purposes.
A resources module offering a comprehensive library of training materials, job search resources, and educational content.
A training module providing access to online courses, workshops, and other training opportunities.

Implementation and Hosting

Utilizing the selected solution architecture, we meticulously implemented the Community Training Portal using .NET and Angular. The portal was hosted on Microsoft Azure, ensuring high performance, scalability, and robust security measures. Additionally, we implemented a single sign-on functionality, allowing seamless access to the portal for specific users within CoAct’s network.

The final result was a fully functional, user-friendly, and feature-rich Community Training Portal that met CoAct’s objectives. The portal empowered CoAct to efficiently deliver their services, engage participants, and facilitate the training and support necessary for workforce development.
